Why You Need To Stop Making Gym Excuses

The Best (And Worst) Gym Excuses and Why You Need to Stop Making Them

Excuses are like opinions– everyone has them. In the decades since fitness classes and gym workouts have become commonplace, trainers and fitness coaches have heard it all. Making excuses is easier than making an effort, after all, and we’re only human. When life gets hard, the gym usually gets put on the back burner. Here are some common gym excuses and how you can help yourself avoid them.

But it’s SO [insert weather here] outside!

That’s the entire point of joining a gym– it doesn’t matter what it is doing outside because the building offers a climate-controlled environment where you can work out comfortably (or as comfortably as possible considering that you are exercising). This is one of the easiest gym excuses to make, but also one of the easiest to bust. Just go do it.

I’m sore, so I should skip a day and rest.

If you’re legitimately injured or have strained something, take a break. If, however, you’re just sore because your body isn’t used to working out, that excuse only goes so far. Once you establish a solid fitness routine, the soreness should be less frequent. It is also usually a sign that good things are happening in your body. Instead of giving in to the aches, fight through them.

I’m too tired.

For those who don’t know, exercise can actually give you energy. Even just taking a walk or attending a yoga class will do wonders for your energy levels and help you get in a positive mindset about working out.

I’m too….

Too old? Never. Anyone can exercise, at any age, provided there are no health restrictions. Too fat? Exercise is the only way to get rid of that excess weight. Too embarrassed to exercise in public? Everyone is at the gym for the same reason. If you joined the right gym, you should feel right at home.

The bottom line is that your gym routine is what you make it. Next time you find yourself making gym excuses, make a hard turn and find reasons that you should hit the gym.
